Extremely rare vagrant. One of the smallest birds, with its characteristic short cocked tail and hard mechanically repeated ticking calls.
Where in Kuwait
Only 2 records for Kuwait with the last record from Sabah Al-Salem area in January 2002. It is tiny, secretive and cryptically coloured species and is a highly active bird with a remarkably powerful voice.
In the world
It has an extremely large range and a population trend that is difficult to determine because of uncertainty over the impacts of habitat modification on population sizes. It is widely distributed across North America, Europe, North Africa and Asia. Its breeding range extends from the Aleutian Islands and Alaska, across Canada, and south along the eastern and western coasts of the United States, as far as Mexico. It also breeds from Iceland, the Faroe Islands and the British Isles, across Europe to Russia and Siberia, and south to North Africa, the Middle East and southern Asia. This song is astonishingly loud for such a small bird - per unit weight, this species sings at ten times the power of a crowing rooster.
