Information
Rare winter visitor. These tiny buntings breed in the northern Eurasian taiga and tundra and may seem out of place in the desert. They have been documented several times in Kuwait at various locations.
Where in Kuwait
It is typically found in agricultural habitat and recent records were from the Al Abraq oasis in the west of the country.
In the world
It has an extremely large range with a stable population and it breeds across the taiga of the far northeast of Europe and northern Asia. It is migratory, wintering in the subtropics in northern India, southern China and the northern parts of southeast Asia.
Local threats
Indiscriminate shooting during migration and crop pesticides.
